To summarize the progress in using AI to create animated characters over the last two weeks: The pace of open source AI innovation was speedy, and then it got faster and then it went parabolic and after that it went exponential.

First, Magic Animate dropped on December 4th

The tidal wave of generative AI innovation began when the magic-animate project was released, offering the ability to make characters dance realistically from a still image. It was rapidly made available via several end-points on Replicate such as this and this.

Except something weird came next.

Magic Animate was just the beginning.
